Colorado
Immerse yourself in the enchantment of Colorful Colorado. Let the sights, sounds and tastes of this state thrill you that you get to agree with Teddy Roosevelt when he said that “The scenery (of Colorado) bankrupts the English language.” And indeed, you will be amazed by the picture postcard views that Colorado has to offer – spectacular canyons, verdant valleys and jagged peaks that are a feast to the eyes. Colorado is a tourist destination where activities are to be found at any time of the year.
Relax in one of the world-class resorts to be found in Aspen, Keystone, Winter Park, and Breckenridge. Of course, you can go a bit farther and enjoy what Beaver Creek, Vail and Steamboat Springs has to offer. Ski to your heart’s content in winter or enjoy nature come to life during summer, with waterfalls and flowers a-bloom for your enjoyment. These are also the places where you can go celebrity watching, as many popular movie, music and sports stars call home. Go to the top, literally, by going to Leadville, which is America’s highest city.
You can also visit the Grand Mesa and take a dip at its many lakes or stare in awe at the rock formations at Colorado National Monument. Go rafting at Glenwood Springs or take a soothing dip in one of its thermal hot springs. There are plenty of national parks for you to indulge in your love for nature and outdoor activities such as camping, wildlife and bird watching, fishing, hunting and mountain biking. Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Red Feather Lakes and Collegiate Peaks are just some of the excellent examples of nature at its best.
As for culture, visit Canyon Pintado to view rock paintings by the Fremont Indians, listen to the music offered by Central City Opera House or rock with the locals during Boulder’s Colorado Music Festival (held the entire summer). Abandoned mines, ruins and ghost towns are to be found at the San Juan Mountains and the Colorado Plateau. American Indian history is evidenced by cities built by Puebloans and Ute Indian settlements.
Watch reenactments of gunfights or depictions of historical life that are to be found in the many small and friendly towns along the way. Colorado is replete with fairs, celebrations and rodeos so you don’t have to worry about missing a cultural experience – there is one at any time of the year.
For other more modern pleasures, aim for the jackpot at Black Hawk and Central City with its gambling havens abounding with slot machines. You can also visit Denver or Colorado Springs and get your fill of its nightlife, cuisine and art galleries.
These attractions are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Head for Colorado and discover the other tourist treasures that await you.
